Anthony León -
EL NENE DEL BARRIO
Cell#1-646-261-9441
Anthony León “El Nene Del Barrio” was born in the
heart of New York City, on February 28th, 1978 to
parents Gladys León and Francisco “Piliche” León.
It was a great time for salsa. Every week there were different shows and concerts to attend. It was no coincidence that at the age of Five, Anthony was all ready singing his heart out. While singing the Puerto Rican national anthem at a local event, he was approached by the legend Hector Lavoe to dance along side 8 other children in the historical Madison Square Garden. He also did some commercial modeling appearances with some celebrities like Pelle (all – star soccer player). He continued singing all threw his teens concentrating his efforts on the R&B market. He became part of a boy band called “4 Appeal”. Together they played a several shows around the tri-state area. At the age of 23 Anthony decided to go back to his salsa roots and began his journey once again into the Latin market. He began singing chorus with local bands and as his knowledge grew so did his reputation as a tremendous vocalist. He has since shared the stage with some big acts such as Tito Puente Jr., Puerto Rican Power, NG2, Los Toros Band, Tony Tun Tun, and Anthony from la Makina, just to name a few. Anthony Leon has traveled many places around the country performing and has been feature on many television program like the eleven o’clock news on Telemundo. His performance at this years Puerto Rican festival has been broadcast around the world as the best of the festival on many different channels like Telemundo, Univision just to name a few. “El Nene Del Barrio” has also recorded on numerous albums. The most recent one being a compilation album entitled “Seguida 3”, which includes performances by Larry Harlow, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Kevin Ceballo, Santana, Steve Adorno and many other Grammy Award winning artist. Seguida’s album will be released summer 07’. He also recorded on a Mafia Negra album, which was distributed by universal records. This album showcased his ability to transition into the regeatton market. Finally, his long awaited production is ready to hit the streets. “Mi Version” is one of the most anticipated albums in the barrio (Spanish Harlem).
Since “El Nene Del Barrio” himself composed the
majority of the production, it really shows the
diversity that he offers lyrically to the public. It
has 9 solid tracks produced by el maestro Lucho Cueto
and Anthony León. The first single "VETE" has begun to
play around the country and has already crossed
international borders. It have been rated in the top
three in canada, and has the number one spot in
barranquilla colombia and cali. It combines Anthony’s
young and enchanting but yet aggressive style of
singing with a fusion of salsa, cumbia, regeatton,
rhythm and blues, and many other worldly styles of
music, along with some of the best musical arrangers
around like Lucho Cueto, Oscar Hernandez, Carlmelo
Rivera, and Luis Disla. He also called on some
friends for this production like Johnny Rivera ,
Frankie Vasquez of Los Soneros Del Barrio , Jose
Mangual jr., Cheo Medina, Ruben Rodriguez, Piro and
the list just goes on.
